It has been said many times that police hate walking into many public places due to the dumb stuff people say. Everyone thinks they are an original jokester by saying “I didn’t do it” or “It was him”. The worst is the parents pointing at the officer and telling kids to behave “or else…”
So a good buddy of mine got called to a retail store for a shoplifting complaint yesterday. He arrives parks and walks into the store. By the front doors a mother is loading her kid (maybe 4 or 5 years old) into a shopping cart.
The kid is complaining he wants to ride in the back part of the cart not in the seat thing at the front of the cart. Mom sees my friend and does the infamous point at the cop thing. Except she goes one step further.
“You better sit down and behave or that cop will arrest you, and if you try to kick him like you kick mommy he will shot you.”
Seriously is that the new paradigm in raising kids? Be nice or the cops will murder you???
I know there are some piss poor parenting tropes out there but this is just going way way way too far. How will that threat be ingrained in that little boy’s head? What happens if someday in the future he gets lost in public? Will he seek out a police officer to help or run away scared?
It is easy now to see why people are so fast to jump onto the anti-police bandwagon. Moms and Dads all over are biasing kids against us. I am sure many don’t even know what they are doing. They say it with out thinking about the long term effects…
