This week I want to talk about something that helped me as I was working to get back into shape. While goals are important, sometimes habits need to come first.

Last week I offered up the top five excuses my coworkers use to avoid working out. One of the excuses was the lack of time. Yes, we are all busy but in most people's life, there is time. Or if time were used better there could be more time.

Working out is not always easy. That might be why working out starts with the word work. Work is defined as exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something. To achieve the goal of getting in shape or staying in shape requires some work.

About five years back I noticed my uniform pants were getting tight and had to order a size larger. I was not in the new uniform very long when it too started feeling tight. At my annual physical I stepped on the scale and was 220lbs.

People are sometimes surprised to find out that in addition to working in Law Enforcement and posting stuff on social media I am an author. My first novel, titled Fire Cop, came out in October of 2015. This week my second novel will be released on Wednesday, April 26th.

I always loved to read. However, police mystery type novels were never my thing. I was mostly into SciFi type books. Maybe even a military thriller like what Tom Clancy writes. But never true mystery.
